File for the SC 4% Primary Residence Tax Assessment
South Carolina taxes primary residences at a 4% assessment ratio instead of the default 6% for non-owner-occupied properties. Filing can save you hundreds of dollars per year — but you must apply within the first year of ownership.
File Form PT-401-I with the Charleston County Assessor’s office, online or in person at 4045 Bridge View Dr, North Charleston. Deadline: January 15 following your purchase year.

Recycling — All-In-One Single Stream
Charleston County uses All-In-One single-stream recycling — no sorting required. Paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and glass all go in the same blue 95-gallon roll cart. Pickup is every other week; cart out by 7am with handles facing your house.

Pet Owners — City Ordinance Update
Leash length reduced to 8 ft max (retractable leashes count). Dogs/cats over 4 months must be microchipped or wear an ID tag. Tethering restricted for puppies under 12 months, females in heat, and at night. Pets in vehicles must be monitored above 75°F. Livestock/poultry require permits; roosters prohibited.
